H5N1 reaches Ukraine - Commission bans imports of untreated feathers

Brussels, 09/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The initial results of analyses carried out on samples taken from Ukraine, in the Crimean peninsula, showed that the bird flu virus which hit five villages in the region this weekend is indeed type H5N1, Vyacheslav German, deputy director of the National Institute of biotechnology of Ukraine (Xinhua agency) announced on 8 December.
