Brussels, 06/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The EU's Strategy for Africa, expected to be endorsed by heads of state at the European Council on 15/16 December, will become a joint Africa-EU Strategy and an action plan will be developed for its implementation, decided the fifth Ministerial Meeting of the African and EU Troikas in Bamako (Mali) on 2 December, chaired by Lord David Triesman of Tottenham and the Nigerian foreign minister and President of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, Oluyemi Adeniji. European Commissioner Louis Michel attended the meeting, welcoming in a press release the establishment of a monitoring mechanism and confirmation of two key initiatives - the EU-Africa Partnership for Infrastructure and Networks and the Governance Initiative, and the vital role of the Peace Facility in terms of fostering development. Michel also welcomed the decision to hold a ministerial summit on immigration in 2006. Ministers discussed the various local wars and conflicts in Africa, trade issues, debt and healthcare, deciding to submit concrete proposals for consideration at the next meeting of the Ministerial Troikas, explains a press release.
