30/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Member States of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have appointed Angel Gurria, former Mexican foreign minister and finance minister, as its new Secretary General. Fifty-five year old Gurria will take over from former Canadian minister Donald J. Johnston on 1 June 2006. Johnston has been OECD Secretary General for the past ten years and will be retiring in May next year. Before appointed minister, Gurria was on the negotiating team for Mexico joining the OECD in 1994.
