Piebalgs urges Member States to implement 2nd energy market liberalisation package - Commission inquiry reveals internal energy market is not sufficiently competitive

Strasbourg, 15/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission adopted a report on the way the internal gas and electricity market works. The report shows that Member States have insufficiently implemented the June 2003 directives providing for total liberalisation of industrial electricity and gas markets on 1 July 2004 and liberalisation of the markets for individual consumers on 1 July 2007 (so that industrial and domestic clients have the freedom to choose their supplier)....
