Brussels, 15/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 14 November, the Commission opened an in-depth investigation (in virtue of the regulation on mergers) on plans by T-Mobile Austria to purchase its rival, Tele.Ring. The market study carried out by the Commission showed that the project could create serious competition problems by removing Tele.Ring from the market for end consumers. The Commission now has 90 working days to check whether the merger would significantly hinder competition on the common market. T-Mobile Austria and Tele.Ring are both present in mobile telephony networks and services to end users in Austria, as well as on markets related to these services, such as call termination and bulk access to national and international roaming.
