15/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council formally adopted a common position and a regulation concerning restrictive measures decide on 3 October against Uzbekistan following the bloodshed of May 2005 in Andijan and President Karimov's refusal to allow an independent investigation (see EUROPE 9040). The one year sanctions include an EU arms embargo on Uzbekistan; restricting admission to the EU of people directly responsible for the indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force in Andijan and for the obstruction of an independent inquiry (12 people including the defence minister, interior minister, the Andijan regional governor and several generals and colonels).
