Slovakian Constitutional Court bans law on positive discrimination

Brussels, 19/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 18 October, the Constitutional Court of Slovakia judged that the anti-discrimination law adopted by the Parliament in 2004 runs counter to its constitution, particularly as it relates to special provisions on positive discrimination in favour of ethnic minorities. According to the Court, these provisions violate "equality before the law". In practice, this means that preferential access to education, employment and health care services for minorities...
