Consultation process to appoint future Secretary General launched

Brussels, 21/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The consultation process which will lead to the appointment of a successor to in the post of Donald J. Johnston to the post of Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OE) will start on 3 and 4 October. It will be chaired by Wilhelm Jaggi of Switzerland, a senior ambassador among those of the 30 members states of the organisation. The appointment must be made by consensus among the member states and will take effect as of May 2006.

The six candidates are: Sawako Takeuchi of Japan, former adviser to the Japanese Prime Minister ; Marek Belka, currently the Prime Minister of Poland ; the Australian Allan Fels, of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) ; Ángel Gurría, former Mexican Foreign Minister ; Seung-Soo Han, former Korean Minister for foreign affairs on external trade ; Alain Madelin, former French Minister for the economy and Finance.
