Luxembourg, 08/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday at the end of the Luxembourg Ecofin Council Jean-Claude Junker asked why they had to wait if the European Council was able to get to within a few “millimetres” away from the Luxembourg presidency compromise on financial perspectives. He predicted that the day would come when another European Council would agree on exactly the same proposals as those worked out by the presidency. He called on Heads of State and governments to agree in order to stop Europe getting stuck at a time when it “risked entering a lasting crisis”. This debate, however, did not take place at a minister of the economy or finance level on Monday or Tuesday evening, underlined Juncker, who, during the session outlined that there would not be any more proposals from him before the foreign ministers conclave on 12 June because these meetings with Heads of State and governments (which he is holding the one after the other a the Gemingen Castle: Editor's note) were still ongoing. He said that next Tuesday he would be meeting Tony Blair two days before the summit, a meeting he described as “a well organised coincidence”. The two prime ministers will discuss the British rebate, an issue on which Juncker feels “solidly continental”.
