Luxembourg, 08/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - Point “A” on the Competitiveness Council's agenda, the case of Norwegian salmon was “debated with a certain passion” indicated Jeannot Krecké, president of the Council to the press. Denmark called on the Commission to rethink provisional anti-dumping measures adopted on 27 April on Norwegian salmon. The Commission also responded to requests from the United Kingdom and Ireland, but these provisional measures could damage the Danish salmon processing industry. Estonia, Lithuania, France (where 7000 jobs hang in the balance) and to a certain extent Germany support Denmark's approach. Spain supports the Commission in its attempt to defend Community industry. Peter Mandelson, Commissioner for trade will come up with some proposals for implementing definitive measures.
