Brussels, 31/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - Luxembourg Transport Minister Lucien Luxembourg spoke before 450 delegates of the European Transport Federation (ETF) meeting in ordinary congress on 25 and 26 May in Mariehamn (Finland). Mr Lux took stock of the Transport Council's work (which will have a last session under Luxembourg presidency on 27 and 28 June). He explained that the Luxembourg Presidency's approach is geared to sustainable development strategy, the watchwords of which are: competitiveness, social cohesion, responsible environmental management, user and transport workers' safety. As such, rebalancing between the different modes of transport remains a priority area for action, Mr Lux stressed. He also made a pressing appeal to national decision-makers so that they might reach an agreement to make it possible to give the EU the financial means necessary for achieving priority projects of the trans-European transport networks.
According to a press release, the minister ended his speech on a personal note, commenting that the construction of Europe has been done, is being done and will only be done through the social dimension, and never to the detriment of the social dimension.
