26/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The ethics committees of countries belonging to the Council of Europe met on 25-26 April in Dubrovnik in Croatia to discuss aspects linked to preimplantation diagnosis for HLA compatibility for prenatal screening for cystic fibrosis, assisted reproduction, surrogate parenting and the ethical implications for an ageing population. The conference will be followed (until 29 April) by a plenary meeting of the Steering Committee for bio-ethical issues at the Council of Europe. The Committee is expected to examine the additional protocol to the Convention on bio-medicine for human genetics and the draft recommendations on research using biological materials from humans.
