26/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 12 April, the EP adopted (co-decision, first reading) the report by Gerardo Galeote Quecedo (EPP-ED, Spain) on the modification of the regulation on the common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) to be set up after enlargement. The report recommends the creation of a NUTS level “for smaller administrative units, which would reflect real circumstances more accurately and avoid anomalies such as (…) very different populations within the same NUTS level”, and calls on the Commission to present a communication this year.
