Brussels, 15/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Investment Bank (EIB) granted a loan of 220 million EUR for the construction of the northern section of the Stockholm ring-road between Uppsalavägen to the west and Lidingövägen to the east. This trunk of the Stockholm ring-road (which is part of the Nordic Triangle, one of the 30 priority projects under the trans-European networks) will link the European motorways E4 (Copenhagen-Stockholm) and E20 (Gothenburg-Stockholm). The project also aims to improve access to the north-eastern regions and the port of Stockholm, which has sea links to Finland, Estonia and Latvia. By diverting traffic flows to new tunnels of a total length of 5 kilometres, this project will help significantly to reduce pollution and improve road safety.
