15/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - Former MEP Helle Thorning-Schmidt, 38, is the new President of the Danish Social-Democrat Party. She won by a narrow margin against her rival Frank Jensen. MEP Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, the President of the Party of European Socialists (PSE) and former Danish Prime Minister, confirmed his support for her candidacy at a recent meeting of the PSE women in Brussels (see EUROPE 8913).
