Industrial producer prices up by 0.4%

Brussels, 05/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The euro-zone industrial producer price index rose by 0.4% in February 2005 compared with the previous month, according to Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In February 2005, EU25 prices also increased by 0.4%. In January 20053 prices rose by 0.6% in the euro-zone and by 0.7% in the EU25. In February 2005, compared to the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.3% in both the euro-zone and the EU25. In both zones, prices in energy increased by 1.0%. The highest increases were registered in Denmark (+1.2%), Hungary (+1.1%) and the Netherlands (+1.0%), and the lowest in the Czech Republic, Portugal and the United Kingdom (all +0.2%). In February 2005, compared to February 2004, and excluding the energy sector, industrial prices increased by 2.8% in the euro-zone and by 3.1% in the EU25. Prices in the energy sector grew by 9.7% and 12.7% respectively. Intermediate goods rose by 5.2% in the euro-zone and by 5.4% in the EU25. Capital goods increased by 1.7% and 2.0% respectively. The highest increases were observed in Hungary (+10.0%), the United Kingdom (+8.7%), Luxembourg (+8.5%) and Cyprus (+7.8%).
