Hassi report calls on plenary to stick to its initial demands on reducing air pollution by boats at sea in a way that is far more radical than Council's proposal

Brussels, 21/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report by Finnish Green Satu Hassi on the draft directive on sulphur content in maritime engine use, the parliamentary environment committee has given its support, in the second reading for a drastic reduction in air pollution from boats at sea throughout the Union. This said, it did introduce amendments to Parliament's first reading, which goes much further than the Council's common position (EUROPE 24 June 2004, p 10).
