Brussels, 17/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission decided to take action at the European Court of Justice against Portugal which has still not notified the measures for transposing Directive 2002/7 into national law. The directive, which amends Directive 96/53, extends harmonisation of the maximum dimensions authorised to road vehicles used for carrying people in order to avoid competition distortion resulting from the various national regulations in force on Community territory. The EU Member States had until 9 March 2004 to communicate the transposition measures to the Commission. In October 2004, the Commission sent reasoned opinions to Greece, Spain and Portugal for their shortcomings in this matter. To date, only Portugal has not taken the necessary action.
