GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/inflation

17/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - Euro-zone annual inflation rose from 1.9% in January 2005 to 2.1% in February 2005. A year earlier the rate was 1.6%. The lowest annual rates were observed in Finland (0.0%), Denmark (1.0%), Sweden (1.2%) and the Czech Republic (1.4%), and the highest rates were recorded in Latvia (7.0%), Estonia (4.6%), Poland (3.5%) and Hungary 3.4%).Compared with January 2005, annual inflation rose in fifteen Member States, fell in eight and remained stable in one. The main components with the highest annual rates in February 2005 were alcohol and tobacco (7.2%), housing(4.0%) and transport (3.7 %), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communication (-1.8%), clothing (-0.4%) and recreation and culture (-0.2%).
