Brussels, 17/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - Jeannot Krecké the president of the Competitiveness Council indicated that in the context of the “services directive” and the “country of origin” principle, they should fool themselves. He said that the principle of the country of origin should be kept but modified in some areas. Interviewed by EUROPE, Krecké said that it was highly likely that the Spring Summit would discuss the “services” directive informally. He also stated that the Competitiveness Council on 7 March would get a “very clear consensus” for opening up the services sector. He explained that the text of the directive would never be adopted as it stood but that ministers agreed on keeping the country of origin principle for sectors where it does not poses any problems.
