Despite strong reservations, Parliament approves plans to send EU fishing boats to Asia

Strasbourg, 24/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the EP approved (429 in favour, 105 against and 26 abstentions) the initiative to send EU fishing boats to regions of Asia hit by the tsunami. However, it changed the proposal to take account of the strong misgivings voiced by its members on the usefulness of such a measure. After this green light, the Fisheries Council should be able to reach political agreement on 28 February.
