Council's political agreement on draft directive setting out battery and accumulator collection and recyling targets, with partial ban on cadmium and exemptions on small cordless electric tools

Brussels, 20/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - Monday's Environment Council in Brussels managed to snatch a political agreement at qualified majority, following long deliberation and umpteen compromises on the draft directive establishing a framework for national plans for collecting and recycling used batteries, which forms part of the objectives set out and the timetable and conditions for phasing out heavy metals.
