20/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - Gianni Copetti, President of Iniziativa europea, has written to European Parliament President Borrell, European Commission President Barroso and the President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Sigmund, to suggest creating a new prize named after two 'martyr cities', Guernica and Falluja. Copetti suggests the prize could be open to everyone, from Americans to Arabs, and the prize-winners give part of the prize money to a Foundation to care for sick and injured children and their mothers from Falluja and, where possible, other areas of Iraq, along with seriously war-wounded (Arab or American) without distinction. Copetti said the prize should be established in Rome, the city where the two founding treaties of modern Europe were signed.
