Industrial production prices up 0.7% in eurozone and 0.9% in EU25

Brussels, 03/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - In October 2004, the euro-zone industrial producer price index rose by 0.7% 2004 compared with the previous month. In September 20043 prices increased by 0.2% in the euro-zone and by 0.4% in the EU25. In October 2004 compared to October 2003, industrial producer prices increased by 4.0% in the euro-zone and by 4.6% in the EU25. In October 2004, compared to the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 0.2% in both the euro-zone and the EU25. Prices in energy rose by 2.6% and 3.3% respectively. In both zones intermediate goods grew by 0.6%, durable consumer goods by 0.2% and capital goods by 0.1%, while non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.1%. The highest increases were registered in the United Kingdom (+1.9%), Lithuania (+1.3%), Hungary (+1.2%) and the Czech Republic (+1.1%). The lowest increases were registered in Ireland (+0.1%), Cyprus and Slovenia (both +0.2%) and Finland (+0.3%). The only decrease was registered in Luxembourg (-0.5%). In October 2004 as compared with October 2003, and excluding the energy sector, industrial prices increased by 2.7% in the euro-zone and by 2.8% in the EU25. Prices in the energy sector grew by 9.4% and 11.1% respectively. Intermediate goods rose by 5.5% in the euro-zone and by 5.7% in the EU25, and non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.1% and 1.4% respectively. Capital goods grew by 1.0% in the euro-zone and by 1.2% in the EU25, and durable consumer goods rose by 1.0% and 0.9% respectively. Among Member States for which data are available no decreases were reported. The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+11.6%), Hungary (+9.2%), the Czech Republic (+8.6%) and Cyprus (+8.1%), and the lowest in Finland (+0.4%) and Ireland (+1.0%).
