Angela Merkel reiterates objection to Turkey's membership - Turkish Defence Minister is optimistic

Berlin, 25/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - The leader of the German Christian Democrats, Angela Merkel, seized the opportunity when addressing the Congress on European Defence, on Tuesday in Berlin, to restate her objection to Turkey's EU membership and to recommend the conclusion of a special partnership with Turkey. Between two considerations on the Europe of defence and the importance of the transatlantic relationship, the German opposition leader said it would be "wrong" to begin negotiations...
