25/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - MEP Nicola Zingaretti (PES, Italy) has written an open letter to European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs Franco Frattini on the decision by the Italian Senate to withdraw from its agenda the debate and the vote on the proposal of law to transpose the EU framework decision on the European arrest warrant into Italian law. Italy is the only EU Member State that has not adopted the text, the MEP deplores. Furthermore, stating that he had appreciated during the parliamentary hearing of Franco Frattini the fact that a "commitment had been taken to present a report by the end of the year on implementation of the decision" , Mr Zingaretti calls on the Commissioner saying: "Do you not consider it appropriate, within the limit of your powers, to approach the Italian authorities in order to find out what this measure will come to?"
