Brussels, 22/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - The leaders of the Party of European Socialists are to meet in summit on 26 and 27 November in Madrid to discuss a report by outgoing Commissioner Pascal Lamy on the priorities of the Socialist and Social Democrat family for the next five years (see EUROPE of 19 November, p.14). A press release notes that the PES proposals will be a kind of "test" for the work programme that the new president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, is to present in January 2005 (we recall that this presentation must be preceded in December by a debate on the European Parliament's priorities for its legislature).
