Brussels, 18/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The third European round table on poverty and social exclusion will take place in Rotterdam on 17-19 October, on the subject "Social inclusion in the enlarged EU: new challenges, new opportunities". This round table, to be organised by the Dutch Presidency of the EU and the European Commission, takes place against the backdrop of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October, and is an integral part of the EU's programme on social exclusion. Fintan Farrell, the director of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) took the opportunity to call upon the EU's political leaders to "be more pro-active in the EU's social inclusion strategy if they want to answer the fears of the European population" which, in various Eurobarometer surveys, put poverty, social inclusion and employment at the top of the list of priorities it wants to see the EU working on.
