Eurozone and EU25 annual inflation down to 2.1%

Brussels, 18/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - Euro-zone annual inflation fell from 2.3% in August to 2.1% in September 2004. Monthly inflation was 0.2% in September 2004. EU25 annual inflation was 2.1% in September 2004, down from 2.3% in August. A year earlier the rate was 2.0%. Monthly inflation was 0.2% in September 2004. Lowest 12-month averages up to September 2004 were in Lithuania (0.1%), Finland (0.3%), Denmark (0.9%) and Sweden (1.2%); highest were in Slovakia (8.2%), Hungary (6.7%), Latvia (5.3%) and Slovenia (4.0%). The main components with the highest annual rates in the eurozone in September 2004 were health (8.5%) and alcohol and tobacco (8.0%), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communications (-2.7%) and food and recreation and culture (-0.2% each). Specifically, fuels for transport had the largest upward impact on the headline rate (+0.28 percentage points), followed by tobacco (+0.26) and heating oil (+0.14).
