10/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - Torsten Gersfelt took up his duties as vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) on 1 August 2004, the bank has announced in a press release. Mr Gersfelt succeeds Michael Tutty, who had come to the end of his four-year tenure. Mr Gersfelt, born in 1945 of Danish nationality, was appointed by the EIB Governing Council on a proposal by Denmark, Greece and Ireland. In his capacity as vice-president, he is a member of the EIB Steering Committee. He will supervise EIB operations in Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, ACP States and South Africa, the Investment Facility of the Cotonou Agreement, ex-post evaluation and instruction of projects, regional development policy, and general issues relating to overall loans and staff training.
