EDP to take control of Hidrocantábrico

Brussels, 10/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has given the go-ahead to plans of Portuguese electricity company Electricidade de Portugal (EDF) to take exclusive control of Spanish public services company Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico. Currently controlled jointly by EDP and EnBW, a branch of EDF, and CajAstur, Hidrocantábrico is the fourth-largest producer and retailer of electricity in Spain after Endesa, Iberdrola and Unión Fenosa.
