Jacques Barrot says taxation and regional policy do not mix

Berlin, 10/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - The fear of mass relocation of companies which have not received EU funding is well-founded, but it is not legally possible to make the award of regional policy aid conditional on the fiscal policy of the Member States in question, since such fiscal policy is made unanimously, said European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Jacques Barrot, at a round table in Berlin on Friday organised by the European Parliament's EPP-ED group.
