Proposed ratification of ILO convention on ID cards and transit rights for seafarers

Brussels, 29/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - This Friday, the European Commission is to approve a proposed Council decision to allow the Member States to ratify the revised International Labour Organisation (ILO) convention on ID cards for seafarers. The objectives of this convention are firstly to reinforce the security of identification for seafarers by bringing in biometric elements. It is accompanied by an annex stating its content and form.
