Brussels, 09/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The association of national fishing enterprises of the EU (Europêche) has reshuffled its management team. The Dane Niels Wichmann has been elected President for two years, replacing the Frenchman Alain Parres. Mr Wichmann, 52, is director of "Danmarks Fiskeriforening", a Danish fishing organisation. He is a former vice-president of Europêche. The Europêche board also elected five vice-presidents and a treasurer.
Among the work priorities retained by the new president feature: affiliating the national fishing organisations of the seven new Member States of the EU with a seaboard (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus); -the launch of the "European Network for Fisheries Training and Employment" (Refore); -the vital inter-connection between Europêche and the regional consultative committees being set up (upon the decision by the Council).
