Brussels, 06/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - the Middle East Quartet met up again on Tuesday in Jerusalem at a high official level, to continue the discussions on the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, which began on 24 June in Taba, Egypt (EUROPE 25 June p 6). Special Envoys from the USA, Russia, United Nations and the EU (Marc Otte from Belgium) reiterated their support for the Egyptian plan that intends to pave the way for the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. They also continued their discussions on Palestine's economic situation and the impact that an Israeli withdrawal would have in Gaza. The Special Envoys are supporting the World Bank's recommendations insisting on both the Israelis and Palestinians ensuring economic development of Gaza and the Palestinian territories, indicated a source close to the dossier. They also highlighted the need to continue the reform process in Palestine and arranged to meet soon to continue their work, added the same source.
