New European Parliament 30.3% women - Sweden, Lithuania, Netherlands and France lead

Brussels, 21/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In an a analysis of this year's European elections carried out by the Robert Schuman Foundation she manages in Paris, Pascale Joannin notes that "the cause of women is making progress". She states that the Prodi Commission had wanted no fewer than 30% women among the MEPs, which is a "done deal", as the proportion of women elected to the European Parliament rose from 31% in the EU of 15 in 1999, to 30.3% in the EU of 25, in 2004.
