01/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In an article published on 30 May by "Le Journal du Dimanche, Secretary from the Foreign Office, Jack Straw praises the new Member States of the EU, who asks who knows that Estonia was the first country to have held its Council of Ministers on line and was the world leader in electronic governance. He also points out that Latvia has the record in business start-ups and that Hungary has been the cradle of inventiveness since the ball point pen, colour TV and Vitamin C. Straw also mentioned the problem of immigration in the United Kingdom but recognised that 15% of their growth depended on immigration and that although immigrants made up 8% of their population they produced 10% of their wealth. The minister underlined in this context that the Labour government, since spring 1997 had created 1.95 million jobs and that people were needed to fill the vacancies.
