01/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - External Relations Commissioner Chris Patten is due to chair the Co-chairs meeting of the Conference on Reconstruction and Development in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (EU, United States, Japan, Norway) on Tuesday. The aim of the meeting is to review the peace process and efforts in the field of assistance and to determine how the international community can support Sri Lanka on the road to a peaceful and sustainable solution to the conflict after the cease-fire agreement. The Co-chairs were also due to express their support of the resumption of peace talks - under the auspices of Norway - between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers liberation movement, talks that have been suspended for more than a year.
