01/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - European Green Marie Anne Isler Béguin, the head of the greater eastern region list for the June European elections, has expressed her concern at the announcement of the social plan of the Sony factory in Ribeauvillé, Alsace, on 27 May, planning to get rid of 300 jobs out of 977 and transfer production to China. France has been hit "at the heart of an industry previous preserved, that of information technology!", said Ms Isler Béguin. The EU, she states in a press release, must make its voice heard on the international stage against globalisation, but also "know how to involve its economy in sustainable and renewable sectors, which alone can guarantee Europe a future". Ms Isler Béguin spoke of the "job pools, with good potential and high qualifications" in the "environmental sector": these "green jobs", for example in the field of renewable energy, have been neglected in favour of "other productive sectors, but with no long-term future", she said.
