Human rights watch denounces obstacles to freedom of expression and demonstrations in Turkey

Brussels, 05/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - Human Rights Watch has denounced the lack of freedom of assembly and the right to demonstrate in Turkey. In an open letter sent to Vice Prime Minister Abdullah Gül, the human rights organisation called on the Turkish authorities to affirm the right to hold press conferences without preliminary organisation and not put other restrictions on the right to demonstrate to those authorised by the European Convention on Human Rights.
