Quartet replaces initiative for withdrawal of Israeli colonies from Gaza Strip within context of roadmap

Brussels, 05/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Quartet for the Middle East confirmed on Tuesday that any solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should be found within the framework of an agreement negotiated between the two parties. The four members of the Quartet (United Nations, European Union, United States and Russia) "took positive note" of the announced intention of Israeli Prime Minister Sharon to withdraw from Gaza settlements and parts of the West Bank.
