05/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament last Wednesday adopted the report by Elena Paciotti (Democratici di sinistra, Italy) on the European Evidence Warrant, thereby approving the framework decision on that issue (simple consultation). Ms Paciotti was pleased that the plenary had reinforced certain guarantees of the basic rights of citizens (through her own amendments and those proposed by the liberal group). The framework decision on evidence, she says, is an essential part of the series of measures - including the European Arrest Warrant and the Confiscation Order - which aim to increase efficiency in judicial cooperation between Member States in combating terrorism and crime.
