19/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Commission spokesperson said he was confident that all acquis communautaire would be translated "in time" (before 1 May or very shortly after) into the nine official languages of the new member countries. Currently, 90% of Community legislation adopted until 2002 is translated (including all so-called priority legislation, the remaining 10% being mainly technical texts), and by end March, the acquis adopted in 2003 should follow. The new legislation approved since early 2004 should also be available in the 20 languages of the enlarged EU around 1 May.
