Brussels, 19/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Just a few days from the European Spring Summit, the International Confederation of Temporary Work Businesses (CIETT) calls for temporary agencies to be allowed to improve their contribution to the Lisbon Strategy through: 1) implementation of the Kok Task Force conclusions on employment at national level, especially the lifting of restrictions on agency work; 2) adoption of the Business Services Directive and a more flexible approach to the Agency Work Directive. According to CIETT, temporary work agencies, which daily employ 2.8 million workers in Europe, could thus create up to 3.5 million new jobs by 2010.
The CIETT represents the national federations of temporary work agencies in all EU Member States, Norway, Poland, Romania and Switzerland. Its members include the six largest world agencies: Adecco, Kelly Services, Manpower, Randstad, USG and Vedior.
