Poland says its willing to compromise

Brussels, , 18/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - "I'm ready to compromise (...) in areas where each party is prepared to make concessions to partners", but "no-one will force Poland to do anything", declared the Polish foreign affairs minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz, about the European Constitution, quoted by AP. According to Cimoszewicz, the meeting between Gerhard Schröder and his Polish counterpart Leszek Miller, 24 March in Warsaw, "could be the occasion to reach such a compromise". However, the minister doubts that the solution would include the percentages proposed for calculating majority at the Council with 50% for states and 60% for populations, as proposed by the European Convention, to 55% for states and populations. "I'm afraid that the last few weeks have been wasted", he commented.
