18/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption on 9 March of the own-initiative report by Karin Juncker (PES, Germany), the European Parliament called for a report to be established on the international conference on population and development (Cairo, 1994), ten years after. MEPs call upon all relevant United Nations services to participate as well as the governments of EU Member States, the European Commission, ACP (African/Caribbean/Pacific) countries and NGOs concerned. The European Parliament above all calls on the EU to publish the results of initiatives completed so far, and on Member States to devote more financial resources to protecting reproductive health, in accordance with their commitment to increase their level of public development aid.
