Commission proposes EUR 21.9 million for measures related to natural disasters in Malta, France and Spain

Brussels, 09/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday in Strasbourg the European Commission proposed mobilising the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) for grants totalling € 21.917 million to deal with disasters in France, Spain and Malta following the recent natural disasters.

France has estimated direct damages from flooding in the Rhone valley at EUR 785 million last December and the Commission considers that the flooding qualifies for aid under the "exceptional regional disaster"...
