Brussels, 08/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 8 March, UNICE presented its "Action Plan Competitiveness 2004", describing its priorities for the Competitiveness Council (see p.9) and the Spring Summit. In its report (on which we will return), the European employers are calling for progress on: entrepreneurship; the Kyoto protocol (the EU should be prepared to review its policy on climate change if the protocol is not ratified); chemicals (assessment of REACH should be continued); European patent (the last compromise should be rejected and new proposals presented corresponding to industry's needs). If we manage to increase employment and prosperity; said Secretary General Philippe de Buck, Europeans will be more positive about the EU, which is very necessary on the eve of the forthcoming enlargement and of a "possible new Constitution".
