18/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Mayor of Terni, Paolo Raffaelli, spoke with President Prodi and European Competition Commissioner Mario Monti on Tuesday in Brussels about the possibility of a solution for the AST ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Terni where the restructuring envisaged could entail the loss of around one thousand jobs (see EUROPE of 14 February, p.14, on the subject of the European Parliament debate). According to the ANSA Agency, Romano Prodi said after the meeting that he had "put officials to work in order to have the whole range of solutions and interventions possible available". Mr Raffaelli stressed for his part that the steel company was hitherto considered as a "European pole of excellence for magnetic steels".
