Brussels, 13/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Secretary General of the European Craft and SME Employers' Association (UEPME) Hans-Werner Müller has advised the Commission to "not start legal proceedings against the Council for the breach of the Stability Pact rules". In a press statement, Mr Müller explained that "Such a decision would make the current situation more difficult as it would only add hurdles to an effective collaboration between the Commission and Member States with regard to economic governance". The UEAPME Secretary General believes that such a decision could prove counter-productive to the European Commission and provide an additional argument to the Member States which oppose the allocation of additional competencies to the EU in economic governance.
